Winter Self-Care
Winter is a time for rest and renewal, looking inwards, and back over the year gone. The place where cold comes from, with the potential for a blanket of snow that softens and covers all, linking us together. To counter the cold and wet we nurture ourselves with gatherings of family and friends, and eating rich, long cooked, sustaining foods, and acts of charity, gifting, and kindness to warm hearts.
Little ways of self-care are important as it's also a season where, with the modern world, we can feel overwhelmed, pressured, and fight against our instinct for rest due to the demands of work hours, family routine staying the same year-round.
Winter is associated with the Water Element so treating yourself to indulgent bathing; a budget friendly skin scrub to exfoliate is sugar! A teaspoon for your face, and a cupful for a body scrub. It's also my favourite as it just dissolves away so no drain blockages! Follow this with skin soothing natural body oils for a spa like feeling.
Prioritise good quality sleep, for longer if you can. Sleep supporting lavender aromas from quality essential oil can be added to a base oil and applied to the wrists or feet. Amethyst is an excellent healing crystal to help with focus; important to stop your mind from racing off with non-sleepy thoughts. Amethyst clusters can be placed by your bed and look attractive or a grid can be placed under the bed.
Before bed reduce time looking at any screen, and choose soft lighting in warm colours (these emulate the orange, and warm yellows of our ancestors fires) which help prepare us for sleep rather than action. Be discerning about what you watch on TV so that news or high drama don't permeate into your dreams.
Book a relaxing treatment to soothe away tension, relax, and rebalance; Reiki, Crystal Healing, and Reflexology, or Facial Reflexology are perfect options.
Finally make sure you're grounded. Although we often prefer to be indoors in winter spending time in nature is important to help us feel connected to Mother Earth rather than separate from the natural world. We can be 'earthed' by physical contact with the ground, or trees and plants deeply rooted in it. We can also be 'energetically grounded' with meditation, visualisation, and the use of grounding and centering crystals.
I can help you with guided meditation during your appointment with me along with some take-home tips, and I also can supply crystal healing kits for easy home use, and are lovely gifts and stocking fillers too. For a really easy, but much appreciated, Christmas or Yuletide gift you could consider a Gift Certificate. The voucher is emailed to you to print or can be mailed to you (last date to order a Gift Voucher is 19th December). To arrange your gift voucher purchase please get in touch.
Embrace the resting energy of winter, as the season invites us to relax and nurture, and restore.
